How the commitment came to be
We know that the climate crisis is the most important challenge facing our generation. For many years prior to 2020, sustainability was on the agenda at LIGANOVA - but never holistically - and lacking full commitment on all levels.
That's why in 2020 we decided to establish the Green Board; an interdisciplinary team of experts that leads, coordinates and follows through on our sustainability agenda and team up with DEKRA Sustainability Services to identify and prioritise our biggest sustainability levers. Because you can’t solve a problem until you understand it!
First, we conducted a materiality assessment to identify the most important environmental, social and governance issues. This allows us to focus our efforts where they will have the biggest impact. The issues which matter most to YOU, our colleagues, our clients and communities.
Second, we had to understand the status quo of how our business impacts the environment. So we completed our first corporate carbon footprint assessment, AKA our greenhouse gas inventory to measure the CO2e emissions of our business activities such as electricity usage or travel.
The result? An ambitious sustainability commitment that ultimately - among many, many other goals - aims for carbon neutrality by 2025. We focus on meaningful change rather than taking short cuts. Emission reduction, resource conservation and efficiency first. Always. Then and only then, will we compensate our unavoidable carbon footprint.
As part of this journey, we acknowledge that our sustainability goals are evolving and we don’t have the answers to everything -yet. So we have a simple ask: Embrace change. Get creative. Exchange ideas, And hold each other accountable.
